Presque Isle State Park will reopen on Labor Day with partial closings in place as cleanup continues of damage from the Sept. 3 storms.

Park gates are scheduled to open Sept. 7 at 8 a.m.

However, the park said partial closings will be in place at the marina and gas dock, the Waterworks area near the Rotary Pavilion, park shelters and interior hiking trails.

The Karl Boyes Multi-Purpose Recreational Trail will be open and beaches 1, 6 and 8 are scheduled to be open and guarded for swimming from 10 a.m. until 5:45 p.m., the park indicated.

The Times-News previously reported that the severe storm early Sept. 3, with high winds and heavy rain, took down trees and power lines throughout the park. That created an unsafe environment, Presque Isle officials said that day. In addition to vehicles and pedestrians, the park closure prohibited access by bicycle, boat beaching and mooring.

Maintenance crews from Presque Isle and other western Pennsylvania state parks began working in an effort to reopen the peninsula for the holiday weekend. The park remained without power Sept. 4 and crews were cleaning up downed trees and preparing areas for power pole and line repairs.

Beaches: 1, 6 and 8 guarded swimming hours: 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Watch for use restrictions at the marina/gas dock, Waterworks area, shelters, interior trails
