Michigan State Police are investigating an early Sunday shooting on Interstate 94 near Livernois in Detroit, officials said.
Dispatchers received a call at about 1:49 a.m. reporting possible gunfire on the freeway's westbound lanes near Livernois, according to authorities.
Police said the victim reported he was driving on the freeway when another vehicle that had been following him pulled alongside his car. He told police that the second vehicle's driver pointed a firearm at him and fired a single shot, officials said.
State troopers examined the victim's vehicle and found a bullet hole in the driver's side door, they said. Police also said the round traveled through the door and struck the side of the driver's seat. Investigators said they recovered a bullet fragment from inside the vehicle.
They said the round did not strike the victim.
Officials said the investigation is ongoing. They urge anyone with information about the incident, or who was traveling on Interstate 96 or Interstate 94 in the area of West Grand Boulevard and Livernois at the time of the shooting, to call the Michigan State Police's Metro South Post at (734) 287-5000.
