Areas of southeastern Wisconsin will continue to see rain into the late afternoon and early evening hours Saturday, Aug. 1, with areas closer to the Illinois border slated for higher rain totals. The severity of the rain is expected to fluctuate as the bout of rain slowly passes through the region.
"We're dealing with stratiform rain," National Weather Service meteorologist Taylor Patterson said, adding it is essentially a "large rainshield" that will take some time to move out of the area.
Saturday temperatures will stay on the cooler side, hovering around 68 to 70 degrees during the day and reaching a low of around 64 degrees in the evening, Patterson said.
Sunday will be "much nicer" for outdoor activities, according to Patterson. The day will be overcast but dry, with weaker winds and temperatures in the low to mid-70s.
Onshore winds bring high swim risk throughout the weekend
Despite the dry weather expected Sunday, residents along the lakefront are advised to stay out of the water, away from break walls and away from piers throughout the weekend as four-to-seven foot high waves are expected as a result of onshore winds up to 20-30 mph.
Sheboygan, Ozaukee, Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha are the main areas of concern for the swim risk. Onshore winds can create life-threatening currents, and people are advised to stay out of the water through Sunday.
