TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Since June, flocks of cut-out flamingos have been landing all over the valley.
It's to raise funds for Quabache Valley Felines and Friends. The feline rescue landed over 450 flocks and raised $13,000 dollars.
"Our rescue takes about $3,500 dollars a month just for operating expenses and vet expenses. We've got over 50 kittens that still need to be fixed from kitten season. So, that's a lot of vet bills coming up so it's really going to help us out a lot," said Melissa Scheider, volunteer at Quabache Valley Felines and Friends.
People could pay to send a flock to others or pay to remove them. It gained lots of traction throughout the community.
"It was really fun to see businesses start getting out there. We had flamingos that got exams at the chiropractor, we had flamingos that got dental exams, we had flamingos that got exams at the doctor's office and the businesses really got into it and it was really fun to see that and you know to see them tagging each other and to show pictures of what they did was really cool," said Scheider.
Saturday, they landed their final flock at Indiana State University Memorial stadium.
"We will be doing this every year. National Pink Flamingo Day is in June, which is when we started this year. We will start again next year with pre-orders on that day and then we'll start flocking again on July 1st. So, we want to make sure everybody knows that we will be back in July again next year and we hope to make it just as big if not bigger," said Scheider.
The feline rescue said they want to make this an annual tradition.
