A man who was arrested last month for peering into windows and trying to make contact with residents in West Campus was arrested again Tuesday for the same behavior, according to the University of Texas Police Department.
Colton Banks, 36, was arrested Tuesday night around 10:18 p.m. for peeping into windows in the 2200 block of San Gabriel Street. He was first arrested Aug. 17 for a series of similar incidents that occurred on the same street in West Campus. The area is known for its high density of off-campus student housing.
The Austin Police Department received a string of related reports between the evening of Aug. 6 and the morning of Aug. 7, with five separate parties calling to report a man peering through apartment windows. Police said the man, later identified as Banks, at one point banged on a window.
Police were initially unable to identify Banks, but announced his arrest on Aug. 17.
After his first arrest, Banks was ordered to "stay away from 1907 and 1911 San Gabriel," court records show. He was released on a $3,000 bond.
Banks has been released again since his latest arrest Tuesday. While police did not specify a motive for the latest offense, they identified Banks as the same suspect accused of peeping in August.
University police urged residents to keep doors and windows locked and call 911 if they see suspicious activity. UT students can also use their LiveSafe app to contact law enforcement.
