Convicted killer Tasmiyah Whitehead was granted parole 12 years after being sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Channel 2 Action News reported when Tasmiyah and her twin sister Jasmiyah were convicted for killing their mother, Nikki Whitehead.

Court records show Tasmiyah was released on parole on Aug. 5. State parole records show she'll finish her parole on May 19, 2040.

The twins were convicted in 2014, after killing their mother in January 2010. They were 16 years old at the time.

Tasmiyah served more than 16 years total, including time in jail while awaiting trial, the parole board said.

Jasmiyah is still incarcerated, and Georgia Department of Corrections records show Jasmiyah is eligible for parole in March 2028.

The parole board said based on law that Tasmiyah was eligible for parole in 2017 but served an additional nine years beyond her first eligibility date.

The parole board stated it found reasonable probability that the inmate will remain at liberty without violating the laws.

During the 2014 trial, the twins' grandmother Lynda Whitehead said her daughter was "stabbed 50 to 60 times and was brutally killed." She was angry that the twins were offered a prison sentence and potential for parole.

"You offer someone 30 years with parole?" Lynda said at the time. "It is like she is not important, she is the victim, it is like no one is concerned with what happened to her."

Channel 2 Action News is working to learn more about the conditions of Tasmiyah's parole.
