A 47-year-old woman who was recorded confronting a San Jose father and accusing him of trafficking his daughter for sex has been arrested on suspicion of stalking and hate crimes, police said.
The woman, whose name was not released, was arrested Thursday after San Jose Police investigated a series of incidents involving her, including the Sept. 6 confrontation in the Almaden neighborhood and another incident at a South San Jose high school three days later.
In the viral video, recorded by the father, the woman repeatedly approached him and his young daughter from a car.
The woman claimed to work for the federal government and questioned whether the girl was being trafficked because she appeared to be white while she described her father as a man of color.
"I believe you're either buying or selling or trafficking this child," the woman said in the video.
Police said the woman made discriminatory remarks and approached the father and daughter multiple times in the area of the 6400 block of Aspen Creek. Investigators used automated license plate reader technology to identify her car.
The SJPD assaults unit conducted a broader investigation before arresting the woman, authorities said. She was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of stalking and hate crimes, among other offenses.
Police have not said whether investigators found any evidence supporting the woman's allegations against the father.
