Multiple flash flood warnings have been issued early Sunday in northern New Jersey as heavy rain and thunderstorms sweep through the state.
Most of New Jersey is under a flash flood watch through noon today with rainfall rates up to 2 inches per hour possible.
A flash flood warning is in effect until 9:30 a.m. for parts of Bergen, Essex, Hudson and Passaic counties. A separate flash flood warning is in effect in Morris County until 10 a.m.

More than 5,800 homes and businesses were without power as of 8 a.m., according to NJ.com's outage tracker.
In northeast New Jersey, rainfall totals are expected to average 1 to 2 inches, with locally higher amounts up to 2.5 to 3 inches possible.
The storms are expected to move through quickly, with precipitation tapering off late Sunday morning.
A weak cold front will swing through Sunday afternoon, followed by a secondary cold front late Sunday night into early Monday morning.
Some light rain showers are possible with the secondary front, but forecasters do not expect significant rainfall as drier air filters into the region.
Monday will bring a noticeable change as cooler and much drier air moves in, with highs in the 70s and northwest wind gusts up to 30 mph possible during the day.
Humidity will drop significantly through the day Monday.
Tuesday will remain dry with highs in the 70s, slightly below normal for mid-September.
Wednesday should see some moderation in temperatures, with highs becoming closer to normal.
A cold front Thursday into Friday may bring another round of showers and thunderstorms to New Jersey.
Forecasters said there is significant uncertainty in the timing and intensity of Thursday's system
If the front stalls heading into next weekend, that could lead to heavy rain.
