Qualifying kicked off this week for a long list of elections on the state, parish and local levels.
Candidates will put their names on the ballot between Aug. 5 and 7 at the Iberville Parish Clerk of Court's Office. The election is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
The final election in the U.S. Senate race between Republican Julia Letlow of Monroe and Democrat Jamie Davis of Waterproof will be among the top items on the ballot.
The winner will replace three-term incumbent Bill Cassidy, who was eliminated when he placed third in the Republican primary earlier this year.
Closer to home, a race for 18th Judicial District Court Judge has already drawn attention. Candidates who have already announced their candidacy include Alycia Grace O'Bear, Lori White and Victor Woods.
The winner will assume the seat Alvin Battiste vacated upon his retirement at the end of January 2027.
In addition, District Attorney Tony Clayton is expected to seek re-election, although no opposition has been announced.
The Iberville Parish School Board will see at least five new officeholders on the nine-member board next year.
Term limits will end service for Pam George of Grosse Tete, Michael Hebert, Polly Higdon, Yolanda Laws — all of Plaquemine — and Theresa Roy of St. Gabriel.
Elections for the seat of Plaquemine City Judge, currently by Michael Distefano, and City Marshal (Michael Barbee) are also on the ballot, along with Justice of the Peace and Constable.
Municipal races in White Castle and Maringouin will allow voters to decide who will serve as mayor, police chief and member of the Board of Aldermen the next four years.
The incumbent mayor of White Castle is John Morris III, while Maurice Harris presides over municipal government in Maringouin.
