MANITOWOC – Looking for something to do around Manitowoc County? From free outdoor concerts and Lake Michigan Day to rockabilly legends, local scholarships and a sticky piece of history, here are community events and updates to know.

Wisconsin Maritime Museum, 75 Maritime Drive, will host August's Think & Drink program, "The Great Molasses Flood & Boston's Waterfront," at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 6.
Genna Kane will discuss the 1919 Boston disaster, its environmental and social legacy, and how it reshaped safety rules, building codes and the city's waterfront.
Admission is free, with refreshments available for purchase. Doors and cash bar open at 6 p.m. The program also will be livestreamed; register at https://forms.gle/5HsmTigfWedbueUn6.
Schools hire: Manitowoc schools name leader for student support services
The Two Rivers Community Band will present Polka in the Park at 6 p.m. Aug. 6 in Central Park, opening with "The Star-Spangled Banner."
The free concert will feature polkas and waltzes, including "Golden Days Polka," "Village Tavern Polka," "America Polka," "Pilsen Polka," "Tea Party Waltz," "Blue Eyes Waltz" and "St. Paul Waltz."
Fan favorites "Cherry Pickers Polka" and "Liechtensteiner Polka" also are planned. In case of rain, the concert will move to J.E. Hamilton Community House.

The Kiel Municipal Band will perform its annual Kiel City Picnic concert at 7 p.m. Aug. 7 at City Park, with the traditional Ballyhoo march through the park at 6:30 p.m.
The free, family-friendly concert will feature summer favorites, including "True to the Flag," "The Thunder and the Roar," "Neil Diamond's Greatest Hits," "Irving Berlin's Songs for America" and the 1909 version of "On, Wisconsin."
The band also will perform its signature march, "Invincible Fidelity," on the carousel.
Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership will host the 13th annual Lake Michigan Day from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum, 75 Maritime Drive, Manitowoc.
The event will feature speakers, panel discussions, lightning talks and the 2026 Champions of Conservation awards recognizing Starr Gerk, Andrew LaPlant, Titus Seilheimer, Joel Barthel, Seven Rivers Soil Cooperative and state Sen. Chris Larson.
Networking will follow at The Wharf, 606 Quay St. Attendees will receive one complimentary drink ticket.
"One Night in Memphis," a tribute to Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley, comes to the Capitol Civic Centre at 7 p.m. Oct. 23.
The show recreates the Dec. 4, 1956, jam session at Sun Records in Memphis, Tennessee, with more than 90 minutes of live 1950s rock-and-roll, rockabilly, country and gospel.

The Manitowoc Golden K Kiwanis awarded $500 scholarships July 27 to seven recent high school graduates to support their future education.
Scholarship Committee Chair Dave Estes said the awards recognize students' academic achievements and community service, while encouraging future civic involvement.
The club received 19 applications.

Golden K Kiwanis raises and donates about $10,000 annually through community support of brat frys, M&M and Lily drives, Estes said.
The club invites guests to its weekly 9 a.m. Tuesday meetings at the Senior Center, 3330 Custer St.
