Norwich Police have identified one of the victims of the shooting that took place on Maennerchor Avenue the morning of July 31.
The man who died at the scene has been identified as Ronnie Narine, 46, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Norwich Police have asked the media not to release the name of the female victim who is in critical condition, as she is a victim of domestic violence. The other man who was inside the vehicle was Daniel Espstein, 51, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
At approximately 11:53 a.m. on July 31, Norwich Police Dispatch received several 911 calls regarding a disturbance that witnesses described as an abduction.
Norwich Police said a witness followed a black minivan. While following the vehicle onto Maennerchor Avenue, witnesses said they heard gunshots.
When Norwich Police Officers arrived on Maennerchor Avenue, they observed a man walking away from a black minivan. Norwich Police say he was detained and later released.
Officers discovered Narine and the woman both with gunshot wounds inside of the minivan. Narine died at the scene and the woman remains in critical condition at the hospital.
Norwich Police said this is an active investigation and that no arrests have been made. They added that no charges have been filed with The State Attorney's Office.
