The Hattiesburg Police Department announced that it has made two arrests in connection with a shooting that occurred on Wednesday, July 29.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 300 block of South 10th Avenue around 5:30 p.m. on July 29 and discovered that an individual in a silver Honda had been shot in the leg. The victim, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was transported to a local hospital in a private vehicle.
Following additional investigation, Hattiesburg Police arrested Channing Vardmus Botlon, a 42-year-old male from Hattiesburg, and Rita Kittler, a 48-year-old female from Hattiesburg, and charged both of them with attempted murder. Bolton was also charged with tampering with physical evidence.
Authorities said that Kittler was the driver of the vehicle before, during and after the incident, but it remains unclear whether she was driving the silver Honda in which the victim had been shot or a different vehicle.
Investigators believe the victim and the suspects knew one another and that the incident was isolated. There is no indication that there is an ongoing threat to the public.
The investigation remains ongoing, officials said.
