Trader Joe's smallest canvas tote bag will be returning to stores.
The California-based chain this week confirmed that the company plans to once again sell its wildly popular micro tote bags, Trader Joe's spokeswoman Nakia Rohde said via email.
That said, the company has not yet revealed when the tiny canvas totes will be available for purchase, other than "in the future."
These new micro tote bags are the smallest in Trader Joe's line of canvas bags.
The miniature bags, which measure about 4.5 inches by 3.5 inches, quickly became one of the grocery chain's most sought-after items. The tiny zippered canvas pouch was large enough to hold spare change, lip balm or a set of keys. It was essentially a bag within a bag as the micro tote came with a far roomier reusable grocery bag and essentially served as a carrying case for the foldable bag.
The micro totes were first offered as a limited time product in 2022. They were last available in November and cost $2.99 per bag. The 2025 micro totes were available in red, blue and green.
Details on the latest rendition of the bag were not released.
"We're grocers, not mathematicians, but even we can notice a clear geometrical corollary when one presents itself, and it'd be hard not to notice an inverse relationship between the size of a Canvas Tote and the commotion it causes among our customers," Trader Joe's said on its website. "In other words, the smaller the Tote, the bigger the excitement."
The popular canvas totes went viral in 2024, but Trader Joe's has sold reusable canvas shopping totes since 1977.
The high demand has led the company to make significant changes on how to release the bags to shoppers that included, switching to a uniform release date for all stores, requiring purchase limits and a certain quantity per person. The popular bags have also seen a lot of activity in the resale market, with demand extending to international markets.
The chain sold striped canvas mini totes and insulated mini totes earlier this summer, pastel canvas totes in the spring and Halloween-themed canvas mini totes last October.
There are 38 Trader Joe's locations in New York, according to the company's website.

Williamsville: 5017 Transit Road

Two more Trader Joe's stores are planned for New York - one in Yonkers and a second Syracuse store. The timeline for the opening dates were not available.
