Most New Jersey residents who previously received benefits through the state's ANCHOR property tax relief program will not need to reapply this year, but officials say they should watch for confirmation letters arriving this month.

The New Jersey Division of Taxation is mailing ANCHOR Benefit Confirmation Letters throughout August to eligible homeowners and renters who qualify for automatic filing. If the information on the letter including mailing address, income and direct deposit details is accurate, recipients do not need to take any further action. The state will process their benefit automatically.

Residents who do not receive a confirmation letter, need to update their information or are applying for the first time must submit an application manually through the state's ANCHOR online portal or by mail.

The first round of ANCHOR payments, including direct deposits and paper checks, is scheduled to begin Sept. 15.

The deadline to submit a new or manual application is Nov. 2.

Officials encourage applicants to review their confirmation letter carefully. Anyone who needs to update banking information, change a mailing address or correct other personal information must do so by filing a manual application before the deadline.

The ANCHOR program provides property tax relief to eligible New Jersey homeowners and renters. Eligibility and benefit amounts are based on residency, income and other requirements established by the state.

Residents can check their application status, update their information or file an application through the New Jersey Division of Taxation's ANCHOR portal.
