Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville on Wednesday added a twist to his prediction that Donald Trump will just quit the presidency if the GOP receives a hammering in the 2026 midterms.

Carville envisioned Trump instructing Vice President JD Vance to pardon him "for everything imaginable" as he was on his way out of the White House door.

"He's going to lose so decisively in November," Carville said of Trump on the latest episode of "The Daily Beast Podcast."

"His power is going to just seep right out. No one's going to even care," he claimed. "People really don't care what he says anymore."

Carville suggested Trump's power was already starting to wane and that would only "accelerate in January" if the GOP lost control of the House and potentially the Senate, which could lead to congressional hearings investigating Trump and his administration.

Trump will walk away by April 15, he said.

And of the pardon, Carville said it would be "easy" for Trump to pull it off.

He explained, "He calls in JD Vance, and he says, 'JD, I've decided I'm going to resign, I'm going to go back. You're going to be the president, but your first act, that I have right here, as soon as you're sworn in, you're going to sign a pardon. Pardon me for everything imaginable.'"

There is "some doubt as to the legality of a self-pardon" and Trump just "can't take the risk," said Carville. "There is no doubt that Vance would have the power as president to pardon him."

"If I were to be wrong and he were to serve his four-year term, he would still resign two days before to be sure he get the pardon," he added. "That guy is not going to take any chance with this at all and just to believe the contrary is just to be be an idiot."
