A former NYPD chief drowned in his backyard pool on Long Island.
Suffolk County Police responded to a home on Malvern Lane in Stony Brook on Friday just before 8 p.m., where they found Anthony Izzo unresponsive in a pool.
Izzo, 75, who lived at the home, was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Izzo served as chief of the Organized Crime Control Bureau. He was also commanding officer of the 115 Precinct in Queens.
The NYPD said that 'his leadership and dedication to the people of New York City left a lasting legacy. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones. May he rest in peace.'
Police say his death does not appear to be criminal in nature.
