A horrific traffic collision in Brisbane, Australia, was captured on both street cameras and internal CCTV, revealing a heart-stopping moment where a car went completely airborne and impaled itself into a city bus. According to a broadcast by 7NEWS Australia, the terrifying crash occurred in Rocklea, an industrial suburb in Brisbane South, last Wednesday night.
The dramatic footage reveals exactly how a standard evening commute spiraled into disaster.
According to a police investigation into the crash, the incident was triggered when a SsangYong SUV erratically cut in front of a blue Toyota Yaris at an intersection. The sudden, dangerous maneuver gave the driver of the Yaris no time to brake.
"An investigation found the Yaris was forced to swerve after a Sanyong cut in front of it at an intersection," the 7NEWS reporter explained.
The evasive maneuver sent the small hatchback careening off the road. The street-level CCTV footage captured the moment the car launched into the air, flying across the sidewalk and violently spearing straight through the glass window of a stationary Brisbane city bus.
The force of the airborne impact was catastrophic. Internal dashcam footage from the bus shows the sheer violence of the crash, "throwing the bus driver around, the Toyota Yaris wedged among seats and metal poles," with the female driver of the Yaris trapped inside the mangled vehicle.
Despite being violently thrown from his seat and clearly in a state of shock, the bus driver—identified only as Charles—did not hesitate to act.
