Powerball reaches a new high as another drawing passes without a big winner.
The lottery game is just one game shy of hitting the $1 billion mark as the jackpot hits $975 million after the Monday, Aug. 10, drawing that resulted in some smaller wins, but no jackpot winner. Even with the jump in the prize, this 2026 jackpot continues to only rank as the eighth-highest jackpot in the history of the game.
This game also marks the highest jackpot for 2026; the next highest was a win out of North Carolina for $209.3 million on Jan. 21.

There was no big winner in the Aug. 10 drawing, but a ticket out of Tennessee won a $2 million prize, and tickets bought in California and Maryland hit for $1 million, according to Powerball's website.
The Powerball jackpot has hit an estimated $975 million, with a $422.3 million lump cash value.
As we've seen in previous drawings, the jackpot can always go higher ahead of the next drawing.
The next Powerball drawing is on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at approximately 10:59 p.m. ET/9:59 p.m. CT. Powerball has three drawings each week on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday.
The Powerball jackpot was last won on May 2 by two tickets, one in Florida and the other in Texas, that split a $20 million prize, according to powerball.com. Here are all the big winners from 2026, including a lucky ticket in North Carolina.

Want to play Powerball but not quite sure how it works? Here are some things to know.
To play Powerball, you first select five white ball numbers. These five numbers will be between one and 69. Then, pick one "Powerball" or red ball number. This number will be between one and 26.
For an extra dollar, you may choose to "power play," which multiplies all non-grand prize winnings by a factor of 2, 3, 4, 5, or 10.
If you match at least one number in the Powerball drawing, you win a prize.
