Amarillo police resolved a situation Tuesday morning at the Motel 6, located at 2032 Paramount, where negotiators were working with a barricaded individual who was later taken to the hospital.

The Amarillo Police Department said on Tuesday, Aug. 11 at 7:48 a.m., officers were called to the Motel 6 on Paramount on a weapons call. When officers arrived, they learned that a shot had been fired into a hotel room from an adjoining room.

Amarillo officers learned there was at least one person in the room, and they began attempting to make contact.

APD said Violent Crimes detectives obtained a warrant for deadly conduct. SWAT and negotiators were able to make contact with the man, who eventually exited the room. He was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Police initially asked people to avoid the area, but said traffic could resume after the situtation was resolved by around 12:20 p.m.

The investigation remains ongoing.
