Pet Alliance has named Dr. Josh Fisher as its new chief executive officer.
Fisher officially began the role Monday, Aug. 10. He succeeds Stephen Bardy, who led the Central Florida animal welfare organization for the past decade.
Fisher brings more than 20 years of experience in veterinary medicine, animal welfare and executive leadership.
He most recently served as animal services director for the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County, where he oversaw one of the region's largest animal services organizations. His previous experience includes work in private practice, corporate veterinary medicine and at the North Carolina State College of Veterinary Medicine.
"I've always believed in helping both ends of the leash by supporting not only animals, but also the people who love and care for them," Fisher said. "I look forward to working alongside our dedicated staff, volunteers, donors and community partners to build on Pet Alliance's incredible legacy."
Fisher's experience includes public health and safety, strategic planning, shelter intake and placement, organizational leadership and programs intended to keep pets with their families.
He serves on the board of the National Animal Care & Control Association and the Managing Executive Committee for the Human Animal Support Services Project. Fisher is also an assistant professor with the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine.
Pet Alliance was founded in 1937 as the Orlando Humane Society. The organization serves Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties, caring for more than 4,000 surrendered and homeless animals each year.
It also operates public veterinary clinics offering low-cost spay and neuter procedures and other animal wellness services.
