The Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate seat who will advance to the Nov. 3 general election will not be determined until after the Aug. 25 runoff.

The runoff is necessary following the results of the Aug. 11 Republican special primary for the U.S. Senate seat. The primary was required following the recent death of Sen. Lindsey Graham.

Sen. Darline Graham, Lindsey's sister, was appointed to replace her brother until the elections. Graham will now face U.S. Rep. Ralph Norman in the runoff after Graham received 33 percent of the vote in the special election followed by Norman who received 25 percent of the vote. The runoff is needed because none of the candidates received more than 50 percent of the vote.

Statewide, in unofficial results, Graham received 109,654 votes followed by Norman who received 82,551 votes, according to the S.C. Election Commission website.

"I've been accused of not being a politician: guilty as charged," Sen. Graham said. "Thank you to every single South Carolina voter who has put their faith in me. Now as we look ahead to the next two weeks, I will work as hard as I can to earn the honor of representing our great state in the Senate and fighting for our conservative agenda."

Norman said in a Facebook post he was humbled by the support his campaign received from South Carolinians across the state, including in the lowcountry.

"When I entered this race, I asked South Carolinians to judge me-not by what I said, but what I did; and they overwhelmingly supported our message," he said.

Other candidates who received votes included Russell Fry who received 65,697; Mark Sanford who received 50,036 votes; Mark Lynch who received 19,865; Danny Ford II who received 2,808 votes; Duke Buckner who received 1,588 votes; Glenda Gail Parker who received 989 votes; Samuel Shepherd who received 930 votes and Mark McBride who received 771 votes.

Jasper and Beaufort County results

In Jasper County, 2,610 votes were cast in the special election, and the county has 22,849 voters, according to unofficial results.

Graham, in Jasper County, received the most votes with 1,353 votes followed by Fry who received 404 votes, in unofficial results. Norman finished in third with 339 votes followed by Sanford with 324 votes, Lynch with 109, Buckner with 36, Ford II with 17, Parker with 9 and McBride and Shepherd both received 9 total votes.

Beaufort County had 13,012 votes cast and there are 126,013 registered voters in the county.

Graham, in Beaufort County, received 5,982 votes followed by Sanford who received 2,544 votes. Norman finished third with 2,077 votes followed by Fry with 1,623 votes. Lynch received 524 votes, Parker received 66, Buckner received 58, Shepherd received 55, Ford II received 47 votes, and McBride received 35 votes.
