Jaguar has shown the interior of the Type 01, its upcoming four-door electric grand tourer, and the cabin sticks remarkably close to the polarizing Type 00 concept the brand rolled out in 2024.
Jaguar has unveiled the Type 00 Concept, a glimpse into the brand's all-electric future. Debuting last night at Miami Art Week, the Type 00 Concept is a roadmap of Jaguar's intent to merge luxury with creativity-a design philosophy the automaker calls 'Exuberant Modernism.' The concept plays heavy with modern motifs, combining geometric shapes with vivid color, it's supposed to be a nod to Jaguar's heritage while embracing minimalism. Presented in two colors, dubbed Miami Pink and London Blue, the paintwork acknowledges the iconic Art Deco surroundings of its reveal, and references the brand's British heritageThe exterior design is simple, bordering on basic. The long hood flows into a fastback silhouette, with razor-thin lights and a washboard 'grille' dominating the front. The low-mounted brass ingots hide rear-facing cameras, needed in the absence of a rear window. At the rear, a unique pantograph tailgate opens to reveal a rear cargo area, framed by full-width taillights integrated into what looks like a window-mounted air conditioning unit.
Whether the direction was worth the risk is the question hanging over the entire company. The Type 01's interior leans on the same minimalist theme as the concept, with the brand betting that materials, build quality, and technology will convey luxury rather than a busy dashboard.
A central spine runs the length of the cabin, dividing it into four individual compartments and playing up the stretched GT's proportions. That arrangement rules out any three-seat bench alternative.
Not everything survived the transition to production. The low-slung driving position remains, but the concept's oval steering wheel has been swapped for a more conventional design, and a digital display now sits directly ahead of the driver. The interior also carries Jaguar's new mixed-case name script, blending uppercase and lowercase letters in a way likely to irritate almost everyone.
Rather than papering the dash with screens, Jaguar has taken an on-demand approach. A small central display shows only the controls needed at any given moment, with climate settings apparently serving as its default menu. Storage compartments are hidden from view rather than left exposed.
The photos confirm the Type 01 ditches a conventional rear window. Following the Polestar 4 and various mid-engine supercars, it relies on a rear-facing camera feeding a digital display, positioned centrally at the base of the windshield and roughly level with the door mirrors. The idea is to keep the driver looking forward while still offering a view behind.
Jaguar confirmed the Type 01 will make its debut on October 6 at an event in New York City. That's about a year later than originally planned. The Type 01 is expected to start around $130,000.
Two more models are reportedly on the way relatively quickly, a more conventional sedan and an SUV. All three will use a Jaguar-exclusive EV platform capable of up to 986 horsepower from a three-motor setup, with an EPA-rated range of around 400 miles.
