HOUSTON COUNTY, Texas (KETK) -- The Houston County Sheriff's Office made 15 arrests and seized several hundred grams of illegal drugs on Wednesday, marking the success of a large and lengthy investigation into the trafficking of illegal contraband.
According to the sheriff's office, several local and federal law enforcement agencies began serving warrants early Tuesday morning connected to a long term investigation into the sale and distribution of drugs and firearms in the county.
A search warrant for a local house resulted in the seizure of 11 firearms, one of which was confirmed to be stolen. They were all in the possession of a convicted felon, the sheriff's office said.

Along with the 15 arrests, the following amounts of illegal drugs were seized:
123.4 grams of methamphetamine
Since the beginning of the operation looking into drug and firearm trafficking, the sheriff's office said they've seized "well over 21,000 grams of illegal narcotics, 22 firearms and more than 20 buy-walk operations." On Tuesday, two residential search warrants were conducted.
"When I took office, I said we would work with anyone and everyone to combat illegal activity in our county," Sheriff Zak Benge said. "Our office simply does not have the personnel and finances to work long-term, large-scale operations: therefore, we rely on outside help and make ourselves available to assist in any way possible. You routinely hear the comment that someone arrested for a small amount of drugs is trivial, but yesterday highlighted the need for that work to continue and shows what a small arrest can lead to long term."
