Yet another Wilmington-area resident has won big on the state lottery's Cash Payday game.

Timothy Winstead of Wilmington purchased the $30 scratch-off ticket from the Scotchman on Wrightsville Avenue, according to a release from the North Carolina Education Lottery. His ticket ended up being a $100,000 winner -- the latest of a string of such jackpots in the Wilmington area.

Most recently, a Southport man won the same prize in early July.

After taxes, Winstead took home $72,018, according to the release.

The $100,000 Cash Payday game debuted in March, with 80 top prizes. As of Aug. 13, 2026, 56 of the $100,000 top prizes still remained. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 76,752.

Education programs in New Hanover County received over $11.3 million in support from lottery funds last year.
