A couple remains in shock after they said a driver tried to run them over while they were walking their dog in the Mid-Wilshire neighborhood of Los Angeles.
On Aug. 12, the couple was walking their mini Dachshund at 9th Street and Lucerne Boulevard, near Harold Henry Park just before 6:30 p.m.
While standing at the intersection, a driver pulled up. The couple said they waved at the male driver to continue passing through as they were in the middle of a phone call.
That's when, without warning, the driver suddenly grew outraged.
"Almost immediately, he started yelling at us," said the male victim, who did not wish to be identified due to safety concerns.
"And then we hear him say, 'What, you don't speak f***ing English?'" the man's fiancée told KTLA's Sara Welch.
"At that point, we put the phone down and just told him, 'Hey, move along, we aren't interested in engaging," the man said.
Instead of leaving, the suspect suddenly turned the wheel and drove straight toward the couple and their dog.
Dashcam footage from a nearby Uber driver captured the tense moment as the suspect, in an orange Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback, accelerated toward the couple on the sidewalk.
"It was terrifying and it happened so fast," the man said. "He just turned his car and tried to run us over, completely unprovoked."
The man said he quickly pulled their dog to safety and they stepped backward as the driver narrowly missed hitting them. The couple began running and screaming as the suspect followed them onto the park grass.
The driver eventually turned around and headed back toward the street. He yelled at the couple one more time, saying, "You guys are f***ing scared now, right?" before he sped away.
The Uber driver's dashcam footage captured clear images of the man's face, his car with distinctive bumper stickers and his Colorado license plate.
The couple said they hope the hostile driver is caught soon before he targets someone else.
"I'm just really scared because this person is obviously unhinged and looking to start altercations with people," the woman said.
"If he attacked us, he is likely to attack others and it's only a matter of time before someone gets really hurt," the man said.
They reported the incident to the Los Angeles Police Department and are urging anyone who may recognize the suspect or his vehicle to call authorities at 1-877-527-3247.
