A vehicle struck a pine tree moments after it fell across the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 late Sunday morning in Gadsden counties blocking both lanes and snarling traffic.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 11:28 a.m. near mile marker 164, close to the Chattahoochee Rest Area.

"It fell right in front of her and she hit it," according to FHP spokesperson and Cpl. PJ Shaw.

According to witnesses, Florida Highway Patrol troopers attempted to pull over a vehicle at the corner of Southeast Indian Street and Southeast Durant Avenue in the Golden Gate neighborhood of Martin County, which is predominantly Hispanic, when the woman stopped her SUV at a home, Oct. 23, 2025. Resident Pedro Orozco described seeing a struggle between the trooper and the woman, and the woman was tased. Over a dozen troopers were on the scene within minutes, as well as U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials and a helicopter roaming overhead. The driver of the sedan suffered minor injuries, but emergency medical crews evaluated the person at the scene and no hospital transport was reported.

Westbound traffic was closed as of noon while crews worked to remove the trees from the roadway. It was not immediately clear how long the closure would remain in effect.

Motorists traveling through the area were advised to expect delays as tree-removal operations continued.
