PEKIN, Ill. (WMBD) -- Two people are in the Tazewell County Jail after being arrested in connection with a rural Manito shooting.

Austin L. Hawkins, 22, of East Peoria and Anna L. Konakh, 23, of Peoria, are in jail after being arrested on charges of armed robbery and aggravated battery with a firearm. Hawkins faces an additional count of reckless discharge of a firearm.

It was not immediately clear whether either had been charged in Tazewell County Circuit Court or was scheduled to appear in court.

According to Tazewell County Sheriff Jeff Lower, deputies with the sheriff's office were sent to a home on Locust Street in rural Manito at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15.

When they arrived, they found a man who had been shot in the chest. He was rushed to a Peoria-area hospital for treatment and is currently in stable condition, the sheriff said.

Lower said deputies learned that the man had come back to his home with a woman he had met earlier in the evening. A short time later, a masked man arrived at the home, and at some point, the man was shot.

Detectives reviewed surveillance footage and, after interviewing witnesses, arrested Konakh later that day. Hawkins was arrested a bit after Konakh in Peoria, with help from Peoria police officers.

Lower also offered thanks to the various state and local police agencies that supported the investigation that led to the arrests.
