A pedestrian has died after being struck by a lorry in the Scottish Borders.

Police were called to the A72, a quarter of a mile north of the village of Skirling, at about 12: 50 on Monday.

A 59-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been informed.

The A72 was closed for several hours following the crash but reopened at about 19:30. There were no other reported injuries, and inquiries are ongoing.

Sgt Jamie Humpage, of Police Scotland, said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died at this difficult time.

"As our inquiries into the crash continue, I would urge anyone who has any information that may assist our investigation, or relevant dashcam footage of the area around the time, to contact police."
