A man was indicted and arrested on four criminal charges, including aggravated sexual assault of a child, that stemmed from his time as a Refugio police officer.
A Refugio County grand jury indicted Daniel San Miguel, 54, on charges of official oppression, stalking and two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child on Aug. 11, according to the indictment records.
San Miguel was booked into the Refugio County Jail on Aug. 12, according to jail records.
The Texas Rangers led the investigation, the Refugio Police Department said.
The indictment accuses San Miguel of sexually assaulting a child younger than 17 years old while using a handgun on or about April 1 and on or about May 1.

The official oppression charge stems from an accusation that San Miguel had sexually harassed the victim by making requests for sexual favors while acting in his capacity as an officer on or about April 1.
The indictment accuses San Miguel of repeatedly following the victim on or about April 1 and continuing through May 31 to various locations in Refugio, which caused the victim to feel harassed and tormented.
The two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child are first-degree felonies.
Stalking is a third-degree felony, and official oppression is a Class A misdemeanor.
The combined bail amounts total $502,000.
San Miguel was terminated from the Refugio Police Department on June 2, according to a June 7 Facebook post by the department.
