A hazardous substance leaking from a trailer on Friday prompted the hourslong shutdown of all lanes on the 605 Freeway in the City of Industry, authorities said.
About 9:45 a.m., the California Highway Patrol was advised of the leak on the southbound side of the freeway just north of the 60 Freeway.
Officers determined the incident involved a hazardous material and initially shut down one, then two lanes of the freeway, but as of about 1:30 p.m., all lanes of the freeway were shut down in both directions, according to the CHP.
"CHP officers and additional personnel are on scene working diligently to open the roadway as soon as possible," according to CHP Officer Aaron Zamarron.
Around 2:45 p.m., all northbound lanes of the 605 Freeway were reopened to traffic.
The CHP initially reopened all southbound lanes about 30 minutes later, however, at about 3:56 p.m., they closed the #3 and #4 lanes due to a traffic hazard. It was unknown when they would reopen.
Zamarron encouraged anyone commuting through the area to consider the 10, 60, 5 and 710 freeways as alternative routes.
Police and CHP are still trying to determine the cause of the leak.
