SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – A man was found guilty for the the 2023 murder of his "god-cousin" in Caddo Parish District Court on Thursday.

During the trial of Dewayne Wilkinson jurors heard testimony from witnesses who said that on October 2, 2023, Daniel LaRoyce Brown arrived at Wilkinson's mother's home on Anna Street accompanied by two of Wilkinson's sisters.

Brown spoke to everyone in the home including the defendant and later stepped outside to get his keys from his car and when he returned Wilkinson was armed with what the Caddo DA's office described as a Black-out style rifle and shot Brown more than 20 times and fled.

During the 911 call made by Wilkinson's mother and sisters they described the victim and suspect. Brown died on the scene.

Wilkinson returned to the location still armed and his mother called police to report and he was arrested at the scene and the rifle was seized. DNA evidence gathered at the home, including bloodstained clothing linked Wilkinson to the shooting. Bullet casings on the scene and bullets retrieve during the victims autopsy matched the rifle's markings. The jury deliberated on the evidence for only 30 minutes before returning the guilty verdict.

When he returns to Judge Mosely's courtroom on September 21, Wilkinson will receive the mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
