Two people died in a head-on collision caused by a stolen car in Hamilton Township on Saturday, Aug. 22, authorities say.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. in the area of Route 50 and Third Street in the Mays Landing area.

The occupants of the stolen car, identified as an adult and three juveniles, "have been charged based upon initial investigation and information presently available," according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.

The victims were identified only as adults.

A statement from the Attorney General's Office indicated the accident may have a connection to law enforcement activity.

It said the investigation involves its Office of Public Integrity and Accountability, which becomes involved when deaths involve actions taken by law enforcement officers.

It also noted state law requires an investigation when a death involves a law enforcement officer acting in an official capacity.

The statement provided no additional details.
