The two people killed in a small plane crash in Croatia were German nationals, their local air club has confirmed.
A small aircraft registered in Germany crashed in Croatia's Velebit mountains near the coastal city of Zadar on Friday, killing both people on board.
Croatian police said on Friday that the wreckage of the motor glider and the bodies of its two passengers were found after a lengthy search in difficult terrain.
The identity of the victims was initially unclear, but the Hamburg-based HFB-Fluggemeinschaft air club has since posted a statement on its website, saying that two of its members were killed en route from the Czech Republic to Zadar.
The club said the aircraft was a 20-year-old Super Dimona HK36TC-100 two-seater.
The German Foreign Office has also confirmed that the two killed were German nationals, without providing further details on their identities.
Contact with the aircraft was lost on Friday afternoon after 4 pm (1400 GMT).
Civil defence teams, fire brigades and mountain rescue services launched a comprehensive search and rescue operation.
