BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- Baton Rouge Community College opened its new Capital City Construction Lab on Friday, creating a hands-on training space for students pursuing careers in the skilled trades.
The facility, funded in part by an $850,000 grant from the Lowe's Foundation, provides training in carpentry, electrical work, HVAC, plumbing, and construction management.
The grant also helped launch BRCC's Plumbing Program, which welcomed its first students in January.
College officials said the lab will give students real-world experience and help meet growing demand for skilled trades workers in the Capital Region.
