MARSHFIELD − Hairball fans heading to the Central Wisconsin State Fair can expect more than soaring guitar riffs and rock anthems when the tribute band takes the stage Aug. 26 in Marshfield.
The Marshfield Fire Department announced that approved theatrical pyrotechnic effects will be part of the concert production, according to an announcement from the City of Marshfield. Hairball Productions Company has received the required permit and application approval to use the effects during the performance, and the Central Wisconsin State Fair Committee has also approved their use.
Concertgoers may notice brief flashes, sparks and other stage effects appearing periodically throughout the show. Officials said the pyrotechnics are non-explosive aerial theatrical devices designed specifically for entertainment purposes.
The effects will operate only for a few seconds at a time and have been tested to remain within the designated performance area, according to the announcement.
Hairball Productions will have safety personnel stationed on stage along with fire extinguishers during the performance.
The Marshfield Fire Department also plans to conduct an on-site fire inspection after the stage and pyrotechnic equipment has been fully installed before the concert begins, according to the announcement.
Officials said the pyrotechnic effects are a standard part of the Hairball concert experience and are intended to enhance the production while remaining within approved safety guidelines.

Hairball will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Central Wisconsin State Fairgrounds, 513 E. 17th St. in Marshfield.
