Claxton Country Squares dance club, formerly located in the Claxton community, has moved to Oak Ridge.
This was brought about due to outgrowing our previous facility. We have nearly doubled our dance floor area, and now it is possible to accommodate many more dancers. Due to our recent growth in numbers, this makes it great.
Country Squares (our new name), a modern, western-style square dance club, offers a gathering place for regular square dances and also lessons for those desiring to learn this art. Square dancing is the official folk dance for the state of Tennessee. Our home location is in Oak Ridge, at the First United Methodist Church, located at 1350 Oak Ridge Turnpike. We are privileged to be allowed to use the Multi-Purpose Room, as well as have access to the full kitchen, and the Fellowship Hall when needed. Please come and visit our new facility, conveniently located in a prime location in Oak Ridge.
This Club was established in 1986, over 40 years ago, and we have been an established landmark ever since. We are proud of our reputation of being the friendliest square dance club in Tennessee, and we regularly prove to our visitors that we intend to keep that reputation intact.
We are also proud to be led by our caller, Mike Hoose, who is very well known in the state and across the United States for his ability in calling square dances and also teaching those who wish to learn this art. Mike was born and raised in the Claxton area and he graduated from Clinton High School.
We have regular square dances on the first and fourth Saturday nights of practically every month through the year. These dances are 7-9:30 p.m. We also offer square dance lessons beginning each year on the first Monday after Labor Day, that being Sept. 14 this year. Our first two classes are free, which would be Sept. 14 and 21. Following this, the lessons are $6 per dancer, with discounts offered for multiple family members. We encourage everyone to try it and see if it is for you. It is a fun and healthy activity for the entire family, young and old. Our classes are enjoyable, and offer an easy learning process with step-by-step instruction.
We have members from all walks of life. We are excited to get acquainted with you and to "help" you learn.
