California Water Service announced the completion of two water infrastructure upgrades in Visalia on July 31, and started a new project in Goshen for water system reliability and fire protection.
When everything is completed, a total of 6,800 feet of main will be installed in Cal Water's Visalia District to improve the water system for residential customers and businesses in the area.
In north Visalia, crews completed the installation of 2,300 feet of 8-inch and 6-inch water main between West Prospect Avenue and West Harold Avenue, on North Turner Street, North Conyer Street, North Stevenson Street and North Willis Street.
In Goshen, which is part of the Visalia District, crews are currently installing 4,500 feet of new 12-inch and 8-inch water main, along with six new fire hydrants.
"Proactively replacing aging water main enables us to continue delivering a reliable supply of safe, clean water to the community and local first responders before that infrastructure becomes unreliable," said Stuart Skoglund, interim Visalia district manager. "We've proudly served our customers for a century, and infrastructure upgrades like this one allows us to continue providing quality, service, and value – both now and for future generations, as we look to the next 100 years."
Crews are working weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., east of Highway 99 on Avenue 308, Willis Avenue, Harvest Avenue, Avenue 306, and Avenue 305 from Road 72 to Farr Road. The infrastructure upgrade is expected to be finished in September.
To minimize any disruption to traffic, temporary asphalt will be applied until permanent paving is completed, which can be up to 30 days after project completion.
Proactive improvements such as this help reduce future service interruptions, enhance fire protection, and continue providing safe, clean, reliable drinking water to the community, city officials said.
