Firefighters completed searches at Jerusalem's Yitzhak Navon railway station on Thursday after reports of smoke prompted an emergency response, with no source of the smoke or other unusual findings discovered, Israel Fire and Rescue Services said.
Firefighters from stations in the HaUma area searched the railway station before determining that there was no continuing danger, according to the Jerusalem District of Israel Fire and Rescue Services.
Passengers were subsequently allowed to return to the station, and normal activity began resuming at the site.
"Railway stations are complex and crowded sites, where we are required to be prepared for every scenario, from fire and smoke incidents to complex emergencies involving multiple casualties," Jerusalem District Commander Chief Superintendent Shmulik Friedman said.
"Israel Fire and Rescue Services conducts regular drills and training in station areas to ensure a rapid, professional and coordinated response during a real incident. In the current incident as well, firefighters acted quickly and carried out thorough searches until the danger was ruled out. The advance preparedness is what enables us to be ready at all times and protect the public's lives."
