A Blount County grandmother is one of two people charged with aggravated child abuse after her 10-month old child was hospitalized with a drug overdose.
Kayla Nickole Brasher, 36, and Charles William Young, who will turn 46 on Friday, were booked into the Blount County Jail Thursday
Brasher is charged is charged with aggravated child abuse, distribution of drug to a minor, and chemical endangerment of a child, court records show.
Young is charged with aggravated child abuse.
The relationship between Brasher and Young was not immediately clear, but court records list the same address for both suspects.
Charging documents identified the drug ingested by the child as Zubsolv, a prescription medicine used to treat opioid addiction and dependence. It is taken as a tablet that dissolves under the tongue.
Brasher is accused of causing the child to be exposed to, to ingest or inhale, or to have contact with the drug.
Both Brasher and Young are accused of not seeking medical attention for the child on Aug. 22 and Aug. 23 despite the child being in "obvious distress."
Both were released from the jail within hours of booking.
