Illinois named third-most-fun state. Residents disagree

For some residents living further from major cities, the answer to this question may not be a straight-up "yes." While many Illinoisans value their communities and local cultures, some often feel dwarfed by the giant that is Chicago.

According to a new study by finance consulting company WalletHub, Illinois is the third-most-fun state in the country, largely due to its attractions and entertainment options. The company created the ranking by comparing the nightlife and recreation across 50 states and grading them on a 100-point scale.

But do Illinois residents agree with this assessment?

The Prairie State ranked third in the study, with WalletHub largely attributing the rating to Illinois' nightlife, attractions and funding of parks and recreation.

Illinois received a total score of 59.9 out of 100, landing just below California and Florida.

"(Illinois) has the fourth-most nightlife activities per capita, including a very high number of music festivals and fifth-highest number of restaurants," WalletHub wrote. "Additionally, the state has the 10th-lowest average wine price. But having fun in Illinois isn't all about partying."

The company went on to describe the high number of golf courses, movie theaters and variety of arts, entertainment and recreation spaces in Illinois.
