The Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant in Ukraine has been struck by drones several times in recent days, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Friday, adding that radiation levels at the front-line facility remained within normal range.
The Vienna-based IAEA said it has been informed that two plant workers were injured on Tuesday when a drone attacked near the cooling water pond.
On Wednesday, a further flying object detonated in the area of a dry storage facility for reactor fuel. On the same day, a third drone struck a sprinkler system.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi described attacks on nuclear power plants as unacceptable. On the platform X, he again called on the warring parties to exercise maximum restraint.
The Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, with six reactors, is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. It came under Russian control shortly after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine and has been struck multiple times since.
The reactors are shut down but must continue to be cooled. The IAEA has a permanent team on site to monitor the situation.
