Fox News host Trey Gowdy expressed concern about President Donald Trump trying to rename Lake Ontario as "Lake America" amid his trade war with Canada.
But Gowdy's explanation of his objection on "The Five" Thursday was absolutely kooky.

"Here's what troubles me. So, it took me 12 years to remember that acronym to learn the Great Lakes. It's HOMES, right?" Gowdy said, referring to Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie and Superior.
"The 'O' changes to 'A.' That's close to 'HAMAS,'" he said. "That's what bothers me about changing the name from 'Ontario' to 'America' — is how close that acronym is to 'HAMAS.' It's gonna confuse a lot of kids."
"That's why I haven't made up my mind on it yet," added Gowdy, a lawyer and a former GOP representative from South Carolina who either has an authentically different perspective or was perhaps pulling our leg.
About 19 months after Trump's Inauguration Day executive order rechristening the Gulf of Mexico as the "Gulf of America," the president struck again this week, to wide mockery. He announced his rebranding of Lake Ontario on social media, doctored a map by hand in a childish TikTok, and then issued an executive order to make the name change official.
