SOUTHINGTON - The Southington Calendar Senior Center had a "surprise visitor" in a video post to Facebook on Thursday.
The senior center's afternoon activities - like party bridge and indoor corn hole - were in full swing when a bear was caught on camera, roaming patches of green at a leisurely pace just off Pleasant Street.
On Facebook, the center urged caution and to keep "your eyes open when utilizing outdoor amenities such as the walking path, pickleball court and patio," although at the time, there was reportedly no one using the facilities.
The bear was thought to be tagged, and in the brief video, it can be seen lumbering between grass and trees, to the hum of cars and grasshoppers in the background.
Although far from the first bear sighting in Southington, a longtime center staffer believed this was the only time one had been seen on Calendar Center property.
