Educators have reached a tentative agreement with the Tukwila School District on a new contract.
"Both bargaining teams were able to come together to address the remaining issues that Tukwila educators needed to solve for our schools, specifically, the safety of our students and staff," the Washington Education Association (WEA) said in an email on behalf of the Tukwila Education Association (TEA).
TEA represents about 250 certificated and education support professional educators who work every day to support students and families in our Tukwila community.
Tukwila educators and the district have been bargaining since April to replace a contract that expires on Aug. 31. One of the big key issues revolved around special education support, according to WEA.
"Both parties agreed that highlights of the tentative agreement will not be released until Tukwila EA members have had a chance to go over details and vote on whether to ratify the proposal at its Monday, Aug. 31, general membership meeting," WEA said.
As of now, it appears the school year will start on time.
