(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A 60-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly started two different fires at an apartment complex, one of which resulted in multiple tenants of the building being evacuated.
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), around 9 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27, officers responded to a fire at The Peaks at Woodmen apartment complex, near the intersection of Woodmen Road an North Union Boulevard. First responders located a fire that was started near one of the apartments and were able to put it out, though multiple tenants were evacuated temporarily.
Fire and police investigators discovered the fire was set intentionally and an arrest warrant was issued for 60-year-old Leontra Stewart. CSPD said Stewart was also the suspect in a separate fire that same morning. Stewart was later found after a drone discovered his car parked at the library on Union Bouevard. Stewart was observed walking into the library, and after tactical officers staged in the parking lot, Stewart was arrested without incident while walking back to his car.
Stewart was taken to the Police Operations Center so an interview could be conducted with domestic violence detectives. He was booked into the El Paso County Jail on the earlier warrants for arson and stalking.
