STERLING, Ill. (WTVO) – A 47-year-old Sterling man is recovering after being stabbed in a fight outside Walmart on Friday.
According to the Sterling Police Department, at 2:15 p.m., multiple area law enforcement agencies were called to the Walmart store at 4115 East Lincolnway for a report of two men fighting; when they arrived on the scene, they found the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was taken to a Rockford hospital for treatment.
The other man involved, a 31-year-old from Dixon, was still on the scene. Police said he is still being treated at CGH Medical Center.
Authorities believe the crime was an isolated incident between the two men and said there is no further danger to the public. Walmart remains open.
Police said the names of the two men are not being released while the investigation is ongoing.
Officers and deputies from Rock Falls, Whiteside County Sheriff's Office, Illinois State Police, Illinois Secretary of State Police, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services, CGH EMS, and the Sterling Fire Department also assisted at the scene, police said.
