The football season got off to a stormy start at San Antonio, and winds that exceeded 60 mph put one local high school band's trailer out of commission.
At Heroes Stadium, where Johnson was playing Judson before the strong storms cancelled play, the gusts overturned the Jaguars band equipment trailer.
"Massive rainstorm blew in. It didn't look that massive on the radar, but the wind was crazy," said Assistant Band Director Jordan Stern. "We saw the trailer start rocking. Finally, a big enough gust came in and it went all the way down."
Stern said no students were hurt, and the driver managed to break his way through the front windshield.
No band equipment was inside the trailer at the time, but Stern said the trailer was "in pretty bad shape" and would need extensive repairs.
San Antonio police were on the scene to help out as Johnson's instruments were being loaded onto other vehicles. Stern said Friday night that he was already getting text messages from other band directors in North East ISD willing to loan their trailers this season.
"The community's coming together, which is beautiful," he said.
