A Beverly Hills man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after he allegedly stabbed a homeless man to death behind a Beverly Hills apartment building on Aug. 30.
Officers with the Beverly Hills Police Department responded to a call for two men fighting in an alleyway near the 400 block of North Palm Drive at 11:39 p.m. Officers arrived and found a man suffering from a stab wound to his neck.
"Officers rendered aid, and the patient was transported to a local hospital by Beverly Hills Fire Department paramedics, where he later succumbed to his injuries," Beverly Hills PD said.
During the investigation, police arrested 19-year-old Conoray Lawantara in connection to the man's murder. Lawantara lives at an apartment building in the area and stabbed a homeless man who was going through trash bins in the alleyway, neighbors told KTLA.
"The homeless guy was going through the trash bins, and this guy was bothered by it, following him and saying that he shouldn't be there and he couldn't be there," a neighbor who asked to remain anonymous said.
The homeless man allegedly kept walking and eventually sat on a couch in the alleyway before the scuffle began. Lawantara was also stabbed during the attack, a neighbor told KTLA.
Lawantara remains hospitalized from his injuries, according to police. His arraignment will be set after he is released from the hospital.
