PATERSON — A teacher who lost his job at School 25 in 2025 after being accused of sexual assault involving a 9-year-old student was sentenced on Aug. 21 to two years of probation.
The former educator, Paul Yang, was given a sentence without jail time after a grand jury on June 16 reduced the charges against him from two second-degree crimes to one fourth-degree offense.
On the same day as the grand jury proceeding, Yang pleaded guilty to the lesser crime of abuse and neglect.
Yang's lawyer did not respond to a message seeking comments on the outcome of the case; neither did members of the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office.
The plea agreement said the prosecutors agreed to dismiss the sexual assault charge and for Yang to serve no prison time
Under the two-year probation sentence, Yang must submit to random drug testing, attend 12-step meetings for substance abuse recovery and give up his teaching certificates.
