A celebration of Hispanic cultures, filled with music, song and food, ¡Fiesta Latina!, hosted by Junta for Progressive Action and the Yale Peabody Museum, will take place Sept. 26 and Sept. 27 at two New Haven locations.
The weekend draws more than 1,500 visitors to the Peabody Museum alone, according to a news release.
The festival continues to be one of the Peabody Museum's signature events, with thousands of people attending the celebration since the museum's reopening in 2024, according to the release. "Our goal is to celebrate Hispanic culture through community programming and sharing objects from the Peabody's collections about those cultures," said Peabody Museum Director David Skelly.
The Junta for Progressive Action will host programming at 169 Grand Ave., New Haven from noon to 5 p.m. on Sept. 26.
The following day, performances will continue at the Peabody Museum, located at 170 Whitney Avenue, from noon to 5 p.m. Programs will be free, community-led, and accessible to participants of all ages. Performances throughout the weekend include those from Spanish Community of Wallingford Youth Mariachi Band and Dancers, Proyecto Cimarron and Orquesta Afinke.
Performances will take place in the Peabody Museum's Central Gallery. Spanish-speaking scientists will be on hand throughout the museum to discuss how their research contributes to a deeper understanding of the world around us, according to the release. Spanish-language family workshops will take place Sept. 27,
offering parents and children ages 5-10 an opportunity for STEM games and activities. Storytelling performances will take place throughout the afternoon. Food will be available for purchase.
Frederic De Pourcq, director of development & operation for Junta said the event reflects the organization's mission to uplift and empower the Hispanic and immigrant families of Greater New Haven, according to the release. Food trucks will be available on both days.
